Game Shooting

West Wycombe Estate is consistently referred to as one of the finest shoots in the Country. Today the shoot still ranks amongst the best, and is regularly in the Field’s list of Top Shoots. Much of the woodland was originally laid out for shooting and it is a classic traditional English driven game shoot. The landscape is undulating and has some really good steep hills, and the combination of this with hanging beech woods and judicious use of game covers means guns can enjoy some very high, sporting birds. The whole Estate extends to some 5,000 acres and the shoot is managed by Sir Edward Dashwood, Bt. an extremely keen shot himself. The Estate aims to shoot days in the region of 250 – 500 birds with a team of between seven and nine guns. Double guns can be used at the clients’ discretion.

Simulated Game Days

A Simulated Game Day is tremendous fun for both experienced shots and complete novices. They offer all the excitement of a traditional driven game day, but at far less expense and everyone is guaranteed to get have loads of shooting in various stunning locations. We tend to run them in the Spring and Summer to enable you to enjoy some great outdoor sport and if you are a game shot to keep your eye in for the upcoming shooting season. The days are all managed by E. J. Churchill, who are based on the Estate in any event, and they can provide all the professional instructors, guns and other equipment.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

E. J. Churchill is based on the Estate. Very much the Home of Shooting, Churchills comprises the famous Gunmakers, established in 1891, and the Shooting Ground. The latter, covering about thirty-five acres,  is the largest such ground in the Country and has won the award for the Best Shooting Ground on a number of occasions. All of our clay shooting takes place at the award winning E.J.Churchill Shooting Ground under the supervision of our first-class instructors. We want everyone to have fun and we cater for all levels of ability, our large array of targets allows us to encourage complete novices as well as challenge the experienced shots.

E.J. Churchill Gunmakers has now been based on the West Wycombe Estate since the late 1980s. More than a century has passed since Edwin John Churchill first set up his gunmaking workshop in London in 1891, laying his foundations of a name that now sees E.J.Churchill as one of the world’s finest gunmakers and the largest shooting ground in the UK.
